One World Many Stories
Tulare County Library Summer Reading Program
June 9th-August 6th

No advanced sign up needed before the program begins on June 9th.

Children can enjoy free programs on Thursdays @ 11am & 3pm
(parents must stay with children under the age of 14).

Children can sign up for a reading log anytime after June 9th to receive prizes for reading.

Children can read library books or books from home.

This program does not offer one-on-one tutoring for reading.

The first day that any child can receive a prize for reading is Tuesday, June 14th.

Every child must read at their reading level to receive a prize. If the child is not reading yet, it is okay for the parent or older sibling to read five books to the child. The general rule is five books per week, but that is a basic guideline for the parents. The parents will decide what the appropriate amount of books/pages is for each individual child and sign that weeks reading log. Older children can count pages read from books at their reading level (examples: 50 pages can equal a book for older children, while 25 pages might be a better challenge for younger chapter book readers). The goal of this program is to give parents an extra tool/treat to use in encouraging the enjoyment of reading, while challenging their children to improve their literacy skills during the summer months.

There is no required booklist for our program, children are encouraged to read the books that they enjoy or might find interesting (including nonfiction).

Every child must be present and accompanied by a parent or guardian to receive a reading log.

Only one prize per day for each child (must have at least three days between each prize received). There will be no exceptions made for this rule.

Every child signing up must start with week/prize one and work up to future prizes (no jumping weeks/prizes)

The child will be able to select a prize from that week’s prize bin from the Summer Reading Program Prize Store (Located at the homework room). Children should ask for assistance with receiving their prize at the children’s desk.

There is a limit of only one reading log per child for the summer. Once a child has completed the program once, they are done for the summer.

Parents must stay with children during program times. Children under the age of 14 must have a parent or legal guardian with them in the library at all times. Do not leave children unattended.

Please be respectful and courteous to our visiting performers and each other during program times.

A child does not have to sign up for a reading log to enjoy any of the other programs/activities offered during the summer.

Due to limited space and supplies, No daycare or group signups for reading logs or visits during any library program times (including toddler time and preschool story times). Groups must call in advanced and schedule any group visits with the Children’s Librarian.

“My First Library Card” photos and children’s computers will not be available an hour before/after and during our programs.

Prizes will not be available 30 minutes before/after and during our programs.
